Microsoft and News Corp eye web pact Financial Times Microsoft has had discussions with News Corp over a plan that would involve the media company’s being paid to “de-index” its news websites from Google, setting the scene for a search engine battle that could offer a ray of light to the newspaper industry. The impetus for the discussions came from News Corp, owner of newspapers ranging from the Wall Street Journal of the US to The Sun of the UK, said a person familiar with the situation, who warned that talks were at an early stage.

Magistrate Judge: Neither Ray Beckermann Nor The RIAA Vexatious TechDirt Remember last year when the RIAA sought to have lawyer Ray Beckermann declared a vexatious litigant and asked for sanctions? Well, a magistrate judge has now said that the RIAA’s complaints were “largely overstated” (shocking, I know) and that Beckermann should not face any sanctions: “Although defendant’s counsel took an unusually aggressive stance and, at times, veered into hyperbole and gratuitous attacks on the recording industry as a whole, I do not find clear evidence of bad faith on counsel’s part.” Beckermann had filed a similar complaint in response, claiming that the RIAA was vexatious, but the judge ruled against that one as well (again, I’d say reasonably)

UK 3 strikes plan risks ’superhighway robbery’: ISP

Posted in Software, filesharing on October 16th, 2009 by admin – Comments Off

p2pnet news view P2P | Politics:- Britain’s apparent determination to at all costs follow the dictates of the corporate entertainment cartels by instituting their anti-consumer, anti-P2P ‘Three Strikes’ business plan, is generating increasing concern. Put forward on behalf of Vivendi Universal, EMI, Warner Music and Sony Music, and Time-Warner, Fox, Disney, Columbia, Paramount and MGM, by Lord Peter Mandelson, it would turn governments around the world into corporate enforcement agencies , and local ISPs into copyright cops. Their targets would be anyone and everyone alleged to have improperly shared files online.

Posted in filesharing on October 1st, 2009 by admin – Comments Off

p2pnet news view P2P:- It’s taking a while — a looooong while — to get confirmation of The Pirate Bay non-sale. Almost since Day One p2pnet has been reporting the supposed acquisition of TPB by Sweden’s Global Gaming Factory (GGF) wasn’t going to happen. However, it continued to be cited  ad nauseam elsewhere as a virtual done deal with GGF boss Hans Pandeya’s proclamations that all was well quoted over and above the many signs that, in fact, it had begun to crumble almost from the moment P2P entrepreneur Wayne Rosso walked away from it
